The decision by the National Executive to offer a reduced junior membership rate of just £23 a year is great news for the Sub Aqua Association. This lower membership rate means that the first year’s membership to the SAA, which includes the starter pack and qualification book, is only £59.
Getting younger people to take up our amazing sport is the best way to ensure the future growth of the association. When divers train with the SAA they develop at their own pace, unlike with some other agencies, and we feel this approach is particularly beneficial to younger divers.
“Having a lower membership fee for divers up until their 18th Birthday is a great way to encourage new, younger divers to learn our sport” explains SAA Chairman, Dennis Tammadge. “When you compare the training costs with other dive agencies, this reduced rate gives young divers a great saving when they’re first learning the skills they need to become accomplished at this wonderful sport.”
We’d recommend SAA clubs promote this lower rate to divers to help increase their membership and ensure that new members choose the SAA for their scuba diving training. The first year’s fee of under £60 makes this an affordable way to take up scuba diving and we’re confident we’ll see new younger members join the association as a result. It also reaffirms our commitment to developing and encouraging new divers to learn and develop their scuba diving skills.
