SAA Club Guidance Manual
Regular readers of my newsletter articles will know that I include details of when we update sections of the CGM.
I have recently become aware that not all members know of the value of the contents of the CGM. In the circumstances I feel that it would be worthwhile providing an overview of the CGM. Over the next few months I will highlight what information each of the twelve sections covers.
What’s in the CGM Section 1?
The CGM starts with the cover sheet showing the month and year, this ensures that you are working with the latest version of the manual. This section provides details of the SAA central roles and appointments. Contact email addresses are also given. The regional rep map is updated every year after the SAA AGM with the latest details. The recent CGM updates are as follows:
- Section 5.5.1 Nautical Archaeology
- Section 5.5.1A Wreck Diving
- Section 5.5.2 Marine Life ID
- Section 5.5.2A Marine Conservation
- Section 10.3 Risk Assessment Guidance
Copies of the updated CGM will be available on the SAA website shortly, however if you need one before this please let Irene know at admin@saa.org.uk
Club Compliance & Safety Reminder
I would like to remind all clubs of the importance of maintaining full compliance with current SAA guidance, policies, and procedures.
For the safety of your members, instructors, and volunteers, and to ensure appropriate governance and insurance protection, clubs should regularly review and confirm that:
- All relevant club risk assessments are in place, current, and reviewed as required
- Diving, training, and event-specific risk assessments accurately reflect current activities
- Qualified First Aiders and Diving First Aiders hold valid, in-date certifications
- Club officers and instructors are familiar with the latest SAA guidance, standards, and operational procedures
- Any local operating procedures are reviewed periodically and updated where necessary.
Regular review of these requirements helps safeguard members, supports good practice, and demonstrates that clubs are operating in accordance with current SAA standards.
We encourage all clubs to take this opportunity to conduct a compliance check and address any areas requiring attention.
